The content of this section is based on four Guiding Principles which are:
- A sense of safety and security is a basic human need. When this need is not met, one experiences a heightened survival response that results in various autonomic reactions including distraction, agitation, and physical ailments.
- Students who feel safe and secure are more likely to focus on academic tasks. Research shows this sense of safety and security in the school environment increases academic proficiency.
- A safe and secure school environment is the right of every child, family, and community.
4. Proactive policies and procedures which promote a positive school
environment reduce the incidence and prevalence of bullying behavior.
