Guiding Principles

The content of this section is based on four Guiding Principles which are:

  1. A sense of safety and security is a basic human need.  When this need is not met, one experiences a heightened survival response that results in various autonomic reactions including distraction, agitation, and physical ailments. 
  1. Students who feel safe and secure are more likely to focus on academic tasks.  Research shows this sense of safety and security in the school environment increases academic proficiency.
  1. A safe and secure school environment is the right of every child, family, and community.

   4.   Proactive policies and procedures which promote a positive school

         environment reduce the incidence and prevalence of bullying behavior.
