Ohio's Greatest Resource...Our Youth
In recognition that youth (students) are our greatest resource in promoting school safety, the Ohio Resource Network launched theStudent-Led Grant Initiative during the spring of 2001. This initiative offers students the opportunity to create learning environments where all individuals can feel included and connected. With financial support and technical assistance provided through this initiative, students across Ohio have begun to build educational communities where parents, students, and school personnel are encouraged to contribute to and become an active member of their learning environments.
As part of the application process for this initiative, school principals are asked to form groups of approximately 15-20 students who represent cultural, gender, and racial diversity. In particular, principals are asked to seek out those students who are not currently involved in clubs, sports or other school activities. Once formed, the student members of these new task forces are asked to complete and return the grant application packet. If selected as a grant recipient, students then embark on a nine-month journey to enhance their learning environments.
