Purpose of the Initiative

The Ohio Partnership for Youth invites youth-serving organizations to submit an application to receive one of ten grants designed to increase partnerships within Ohio.  This is intended to promote all levels of collaborations beginning with the partnership between youth and their adult advisor and including other entities within communities that focus on community service, prevention, and positive youth development activities.  These grants offer the opportunity for:

  • Understanding the power and benefits of partnering at the state, county, and local level.
  • Building and developing sustainable partnerships.
  • Networking with other youth groups, youth-serving organizations, and adults from the same county and/or neighborhood and becoming aware of available resources.

Background

Today’s young people are living in an exciting time with an increasingly diverse society, new technologies, and expanding opportunities.  To help ensure that they are prepared to become the next generation of parents, workers, leaders, and citizens, members of the Ohio Partnership for Youth are working toward a shared vision – Ohio’s youth will have the skills, character and civic responsibility to assume leadership roles.  (Members of the Ohio Partnership for Youth can be found in Appendix A of this application.)

The Partnership began in January of 2004 for the purpose of cultivating relationships between numerous agencies and organizations which provide valuable opportunities for youth around three cornerstones: community service, prevention, and positive youth development.  During the first phase of the Partnership, a Youth Summit was convened in Columbus, Ohio during October 2004 where youth and their adult advisors met to learn more about partnerships.

In phase II, the Ohio Partnership for Youth conducted nine regional meetings throughout Ohio to bring together adult advisors and youth from many different organizations such as agencies, schools, faith-based groups and others who serve or involve youth, to investigate the potential of partnership and collaboration for community improvement initiatives.

Now in phase III, the Ohio Partnership for Youth seeks to nurture further partnership in the state by providing ten grants to develop sustainable partnerships at the local level.  These partnerships between youth-serving organizations should build on the cornerstones of the Partnership.

Requirements of Applicants

This application is to receive one of ten grants to develop partnerships between youth-serving organizations in communities around the cornerstones of the Ohio Partnership for Youth: community service, prevention, and positive youth development.  Applicants are required to:

Form partnerships with a minimum of three other youth serving organizations within their community and/or county.  Additional partners are encouraged to participate, however, at least three must be new and not preexisting prior to the grant application.

  • Hold weekly or monthly meetings with partners to determine/organize grant activities (a guide will be provided by the Ohio
  • Partnership for Youth to help guide these meetings).
  • Coordinate at least one effort/activity around one or more of the Ohio Partnership for Youth’s cornerstones.
  • Participate in two site visits with the grant coordinator.
  • Attend a one-day event in October 2007 to share successes with other grant recipients.
  • Submit a mid-grant report by September 28, 2007 and a grant summary report by January 25, 2008.
  • Prepare a presentation to share at the Ohio Prevention and Education Conference in November 2007.
